Jane’s Home

“My name is Ehis, and this is my story. There’s a girl named Jane; she’s an attractive young woman who was recently heartbroken by her boyfriend, Osaro. He ended their relationship simply because she refused to go clubbing with him. Now, Jane is alone in her room, lost in her thoughts, and wearing a sad expression. She focuses on a single spot in her room, reflecting on her life and what had just happened between her and her ex a few days ago.”

This is her recollection: At about 7 p.m. in Osaro’s living room, Osaro walked in, all dressed for a party. He saw Jane seated, watching her favorite show on TV. Osaro approached her and said, “What are you still doing watching this stupid show? Aren’t you going with me to the club again? Mary, Patrick, Ola, they’re all going to be there.”

Jane replied, “I never said I was going. You know me well enough to understand that I don’t go to nightclubs. Besides, Patrick smokes too much and never considers the people around him.”

Osaro was feeling upset and said, “But I begged you to go with me just this once.” Jane replied, “It’s not about begging; it’s about you respecting my choice for what I want.” Osaro became furious and yelled, “You’re so weird. You don’t go to parties or clubs, and you don’t like hanging out with my friends. It’s always about what you want—what about what I want? I enjoy socializing, and I’m sick and tired of you not being the way I want.”

Frustrated, Osaro paced around the room, contemplating leaving. Then he turned around and said, “If you’re not going out with me tonight, you better not be here when I return.” Looking surprised, Jane replied, “Seriously?” Osaro responded, “Yeah, seriously.” Jane replied, “Okay, fine.” Osaro retorted, “Yeah, fine,” and slammed the door on his way out.

As Jane reflected on the fight, her sister Adesuwa entered the room and asked, “Jane, what’s wrong with you? You haven’t been picking up your calls. Are you thinking about that boy again?” Jane replied, “I’m fine, just a bit tired.” Adesuwa said, “Why wouldn’t you be tired when you keep to yourself all the time? It’s been weeks since he dumped you. He’s probably with another girl right now, and you’re here overthinking.” Jane corrected her, saying, “He didn’t dump me; we fought.” Adesuwa interrupted, “So what’s the difference? Face the facts and forget about him.”

Jane stood up and looked at her sister. “I need some air,” she said, walking out of the room. Adesuwa responded, “You surely do!”

The Green Park

Jane walked out of the building and took a long stroll to a nearby green park, slowly walking along the lakeside, feeling sad.

As I watched Jane walk past me with her slow steps beside the lake, I was instantly captivated by her calmness and beauty. Gathering my courage, I walked up to her and said, “Hey, pretty, my name is Ehis. You look gorgeous. What’s your name, and what is a lovely girl like you doing all alone in the park looking so sad?”

Jane looked at me strangely at first, then replied, “Am I sad? Yes, it’s obvious, but still, your beauty radiates beyond that sad face.” I smiled at her response. I continued the conversation, saying, “I didn’t mean to bother you, but I don’t think a pretty girl should be alone in a romantic park like this.”

Jane smiled and met my gaze, saying, “Really, a romantic park?”

“Of course! That’s why they call it the Green Park,” I said with a grin.

Then, jokingly, Jane said, “Anyway, I am searching for something. What is that?”

I quickly responded, “What are you looking for?”

Jane turned to stare at the lake and said, “I am looking for a rich and nice guy who doesn’t like nightclubs.”

I chuckled at her response, appreciating her sense of humor. “Well, you’re in luck,” I said playfully, “because I happen to be a rich and nice guy who absolutely despises nightclubs.”

Jane turned toward me with a curious expression. “Is that so?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.

I nodded confidently. “Absolutely. Nightclubs aren’t my thing. I prefer more intimate settings, like this park, for instance.”

Jane smiled, momentarily forgetting her earlier sadness. “That sounds nice,” she said softly.

“Trust me, it is,” I replied with a reassuring grin. “There’s something special about the peace and tranquility of nature that you can’t find in crowded places filled with loud music and flashing lights.”

“I can definitely see the appeal,” Jane said, glancing around at the serene surroundings.

We stood there in comfortable silence for a moment, both lost in our thoughts as we gazed at the calm lake.

After a while, I turned to face Jane and mustered the courage to ask her a question. “So, do you mind telling me your name?” I asked hopefully.

Jane looked at me and smiled. “No,” she said warmly.

“Why not?” I asked, puzzled.

Jane playfully nudged my arm. “You still have to prove that you are rich and nice,” she challenged.

I pretended to think for a moment before reaching into my pocket and pulling out a wad of Monopoly money.

“Does this count?” I asked with a smirk.

Jane burst into laughter, clutching her stomach as she doubled over. Her laughter was contagious, making me feel warm inside.

“Okay, you got me,” she said between giggles. “You’re definitely the richest guy I’ve ever met.”

I couldn’t help but join in her laughter. It felt effortless and comfortable being around her.

“What about the nice-looking part?” I teased.

Jane inspected me from head to toe, pretending to be serious as she pondered the question.

“You’ll do,” she finally said with a mischievous grin.

We both laughed again, the tension easing even more. The initial awkwardness of our encounter had faded away, leaving behind a sense of connection.

“So, now that we’ve established that you’re rich and nice-looking—”

“And that I’m easily impressed by Monopoly money,” she added with a playful wink.

“I can’t believe we’re having this conversation,” Jane said, a note of wonder in her voice. “A few hours ago, I was feeling so down, and now…” She trailed off, a smile playing on her lips.

“Now, you’re here with me,” I finished the sentence for her. “And I’m glad you are. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this… alive. Like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.”

She reached out and took my hand, her touch gentle yet firm. “Me too,” she whispered. “I feel like I’ve known you forever, and yet this is just the beginning.”

We spent the rest of the evening walking through the park together, sharing stories and getting to know each other better. I found out that she was single and heartbroken but ready to mingle. We discovered how much we had in common and how easily we could make each other laugh.

By the time we decided to call it a night, I knew that my chance encounter with Jane was anything but coincidental. There was an undeniable connection between us—a shared understanding and appreciation that made me believe we were meant to find each other in that park on that particular day.

As we said our goodbyes and exchanged phone numbers, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement and hope for what the future held. Jane had unknowingly breathed new life into my weary heart, and I was determined to prove to her that not all guys were like her ex-boyfriend Osaro.
